It has been a while since i've posted. I've been really focused on school (20 credits) with midterms, papers, and finals and haven't been able to update. But i'm back! =D
This winter has been HARD on my fro. Ironically, I've been doing more wash and go's since my curls have been coming in beautifully. I've noticed, however, that eyelash sized pieces (and some bigger) have been breaking off and i'm not too pleased with that. Now, i'm on a journey to keep my ends. I'm going to trim my ends once i get some clippers and then we'll see where it goes from there.
While i was gone, I turned 21! I wore my signature style: a puff in the back and my mini bang fro thingy in the front. I did a wash the night before and a twist out the day of.
I'm still using my concoction of shea butter and coconut oil. It provides great moisture and I haven't really been using it as often as i should, but I noticed that once I started up again, my hair thanked me. This whole maintenance thing is new too me, but i've realized that this is all a work in progress and I'm willing to do this work.
This winter break, I put my hair in mini twists for a week and then wen I was going out, I untwisted it for a mean twist out. It was looking quite sexy if I do say so myself ;)
So far, in spite of this terrible winter, my fro has been flourishing. The bottom line is that I love my hair. I love the curls, I love the maintenance, and I love the outcome. I'm taking this journey all the way. Length check coming soon....stay tuned!!

Determined
I'm determined to be able to do this by March...that'll be my one year grow out mark and my 5 month since the BC mark. My hair is the perfect texture for this! AHHHHHHH can't wait!! I'm thinking bout coloring Renee too. Although she looks fab in her shade of brown, i've always wanted to experiment with lighteners. There's this hair lightener that some stylists use that has no bleach or peroxides...it's purely oil. What kind of oil? No idea, but when I do lighten ( when I have money) I will be using the oil lightener and putting in this color. I think it's like a 33 in weave. I'm excited =D
I have no idea who she is or where this picture is from, but her hair is to die!! <3

Moisturizing Spritz Results
A couple days ago, I told you guys about the moisturizing spritz I concocted for my twist n curl. When I took the twists out, my roots were really soft and responsive (like I said, my hair loves olive oil), but I hadn't made much so it was done really quick. Luckily, I had some more Infusium 23 Leave-in Treatment and my friend gave me more oils so I just made more. This new one was even better because it had castor oil, Vitamin E, and olive oil in it. My hair was even softer!! I looooove soft hair! I'll let you know how this one turned out, stay tuned!!!

Just to clarify, this is not solely about length
I just want to clarify that I am not hung up on getting long hair; I've always had short hair and I actually like it better. The only reason I've named such specific lengths is because I want to see the progress that my hair has made. I'm also curious to see exactly how long my hair can grow. I have no burning desire to have hair down to my ankles, I'm just testing the waters ;)

back to reality
After some thinking, I 've come to the realization that BSL is not realistic for May 2011 simply for the reason that my current length is (NL) neck length and my (NG) new growth is only about 2-3 inches off of my head. For this reason I have decided that my new May 2011 goal is most likely gonna be damn near close to (APL) arm pit length. Today I decided that I'm gonna do my BC (big chop) in December, my birth month! I will be turning 21 and I want to start my twenty-first year completely curly since I've always admired curly hair. So, this year around December 10 (probably the weekend before) I am going to a nappy salon and getting my hopefully 6 inches of naturally curly hair styled gorgeously!! I am kind of excited...wish me luck!!
As for my two-strand flat twist, they came out a hott mess! I had to go out in the morning, so I turned them into a updo and kept it moving, when I came back I did my twist n curl in the back and two-strand flat twisted the front and it came out nice. Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures before it messed up :T....maybe next time!

intro
Hi guys, my name is shamika and I am a 20 year old black woman of Jamaican heritage. Since last year, I've been contemplating going natural, but I was always talked out of it. Now, I have grown completely tired of relaxed hair and I really do not enjoy wearing my hair bone straight. I've always been the type to get tired of my hair and want to do something different with it. I've done weaves, wrinses, cuts, but my favorite thing to do is wash it and let it air dry curly which is what let me to my decision to go natural. I've noticed that when my hair is relaxed, it hardly grows, but when I do my wash and air dry, it grows significantly and is overall healthier and thicker. My new growth is between a 3a and 3c texture and is very beautiful. I really love my curls and am very interested to see how far it can progress. This is why I am taking the BSL [bra strap length] challenge which will hopefully lead to WL [waist length] hair in the long run. My goal is to reach damn near close to BSL if not BSL itself by my college graduation next year May 18th!!! I am beginning this mission with braids and I already see growth. I got the braids on May 8th and they have, as of today, already grown about 3/4 of an inch in just two weeks and that is from using the method in this link: http://www.growafrohairlong.com/braidreg.html. What I do is wash my braids every week with BSX spray shampoo and alternate daily between braid spray and infusium 23 repairology. It really works! In approximately 2 months, I am going to take the braids out and start a new regimen, which hardly varies from the braid regimen, using deep conditioning weekly and wet buns. Ultimately, I am promoting healthy hair and growth for all black women. I will try my best to post pictures of my progress starting right after I take the braids out and continuing probably every 3 months. Wish me luck!
